The paper, co-authored with Eric Ringger and titled [http://portal.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=1555437 "Improving Optical Character Recognition through Efficient Multiple System Alignment"], was also a finalist for the best full paper at the conference.

* Eric Ringger, Robbie Haertel, and Katrin Tomanek (Jena University) organized the NAACL HLT 2009 [[Workshop on Active Learning for NLP 2009]]

* The annual University of Utah and Brigham Young University NLPfest was held here at BYU on November 9th, 2007.  [[NLPfest |Schedule]].

* BYU - University of Utah NLPfest I.  Members of the BYU NLP Lab and the NLP group at the University of Utah met for their first NLPfest.  Hal Daume presented his NAACL tutorial on Bayesian Approaches to HLT.  U grad. students Sean Igo, David Price, and Siddharth Patwardhan and Y grad. students Dan Walker and Robbie Haertel presented their research.
